I strive to create finely crafted items made from clay that serve a functional purpose, while also summoning an emotional longing and/or memory for the holder. I hope a simple, finely crafted clay piece will enhance a person’s experience as they go about their daily rituals using it for beverages, food or many other possible uses.
My overall design choices come from recognizing what will arouse a longing for a place or memory from an individual. For now botanical designs have dominated as we market our pottery to regions containing mountains, streams and lakes. Although I am not sure what might be next to motivating a new series, I am confident that my intention to create a series that evokes a positive emotion will satisfy my and my customer’s needs.
I retired from a career in the computer networking industry in 1998 which included multiple successful start-up companies. My wife, Cindy, graduated from University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor’s in Ceramics and was always a hobby potter who eventually created a small home business after also retiring from the electronics industry. In 2003 she began apprenticing me into her business as we decided to make it our primary source of income. 15 years later we find ourselves as a successful functional pottery producer. After many years of learning the clay craft, I have as a “maker” found I am now able to begin creating some of my own designs and look forward to many more years of clay work.
