Meredith Walker, Potter
I love the fact that a spinning mass of clay on a potter’s wheel can be coaxed upward, pressed downward, centered, opened, and then pulled up and shaped into a purposeful form. The forms of pottery I enjoy making are the ones I like to use myself, usually simple and functional, and comfortable for everyday use. Because it is hand-thrown (or occasionally hand-built), each piece is unique. My goal is to make pieces that will please those who value the one-of-a-kind nature of hand-made pottery—who want to feel a connection with the object and the craftsperson who made it. I want them to enjoy the experience of using my pottery – or giving it as gifts – as much as I enjoy making it.
